The year is 1953 and Marjorie is hard at it - working from home. She's already scrubbed the step, taken out the ashes, done the washing by hand, walked up to the local greengrocer and bakery with the baby in the pram, called in to the post office, spent the time of day chatting with some neighbours on her way by and is now home working her way through her ironing before the older children return from school when she'll start preparing the family dinner from scratch and might have chance to put her feet up with a cup of tea before the evening duties commence!
Fast forward to 2012 and Marjorie's granddaughter Emma is hard at it - working from home. With her eldest children at school and the baby in childcare for a few hours she has the morning to focus on her web design business she set up from home a couple of years ago. Working from home means she can do the school run, keep up with housework (or have a cleaner to help out as her business grows) and pop to the local shop (or be home to receive her online shopping order) The flexibility she has enables her to arrange client visits around childcare and work on her business during the evenings and weekends if she has spent time in the day with her youngest. It's a busy life...she might have chance to enjoy a cup of tea as she works from her desk....
